Hi, Welcome to Talk Budgies!

The purpose of this forum is to promote the BEST PRACTICES in the care of budgies for their optimal Health and Well-Being

Avian Association of Veterinarians

Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities, and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility. This requires extensive research and an openness to continual learning.

Before we answer questions with regard to breeding or mutations, we need more information:

Why do you want to breed your birds?
How long have you owned budgies?
How old are the budgies you wish to breed?
Do you have any experience with breeding?
Are you certain the birds are not related?
What specific diet do you have them on at this time?
What are you planning to do with any offspring?
Do you have an Avian Vet?
Do you know how to properly hand feed a chick should something unforeseen happen?

A heartfelt plea to forum members new and old

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Thanks for your reply and it鈥檚 great to have you here!

The clutch will have greens and blues, about half of them pied, and some blue will have yellow faces like their father. Since the father is opaline, which is a sex-linked gene, any females in the clutch will be opaline, so in fact you鈥檒l be able to tell gender as soon as they start getting feathers so you can ask the breeder for photos earlier than usual and determine which chicks are males and which are female :)
Meanwhile, you鈥檝e come to a great place to learn even more about the best of budgie care practices! Please be sure to have a look around the forums鈥 many budgie articles and 鈥渟tickies鈥, included above, to ensure you鈥檙e up to date on everything. If you have questions after doing so, please be sure to ask as we鈥檇 love to help.

Best wishes! 馃憢
