Veggies?

1036 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  FaeryBee
I have yet to own birds, but plan to get a budgie. I'm doing my best to find all the information, but it's pretty hard for me to know what's true and what's not,so my friend recommended that I go here. Anyway, onto the question,I haven't really learned much about diet, especially the Fruit and veggie side of it,so I want wondering if someone could break it down for me. How much do I feed, how often, what do I feed (all of this veggie and fruit wise) I'm just generally really confused and would love some clarification. Thanks !

Hi, Erica:

Take a look at the information in these links:

You will find many different tips with regard to presenting vegetables and encouraging your budgies to try new foods in the Diet and Nutrition section of the forum.
The first vegetable which my budgies that had not been weaned to vegetables tried (and loved) was sweet corn kernels sprinkled with a teeny bit of garlic powder (NOT salt).

Budgies seem to love "spicy" tastes.
They also adored fresh basil, dill, chickweed, zucchini and red pepper. ;)

Using Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother)
as a natural pro-biotic is very beneficial to your budgies:

The key to a healthy diet for budgies is much the same as it is for humans and other animals.
Give a good variety of fresh vegetables and you can serve vegetables on a daily basis.
Fruits are higher in sugar content so limit fruit to a treat once or twice a week.

How often can Cucumber be fed?

Hi! Apoligies for all the questions lately!
I was wondering how often they can have Cucumber? Thanks in advanced!:bml:
Cucumber is a safe food, but it does have a high water content which in turn means that any nutrients in there are diluted.

I guess how often it can be fed, is connected to how much your bird actually eats. If it is eaten (and/or given) to the relative exclusion of other veggies, then that’s not great.
I agree, I would say that it's ok to feed it once in a while but the bulk of the veggies should be dark leafy greens, nutrient rich carrots, etc. :)
I've merged your thread about feeding cucumber into your other thread asking about vegetables. :001_tongue:
