I got Bandit September 26,2010 He's banded and was born in 2009 So he's over a year old

at first I thought he was a Recessive pied, His cere was pink, and I didn't see any iris rings, well a few weeks later I was taking pics and he had iris rings

his cere is a purply pink with a very light blue tinge that isn't there all the time

the pics don't show the cere too well but its more purple pink than Blue

so after I saw the iris rings I figured okay Dominant Pied most likely Double factor since he's got very little markings

but I've been looking at him the last couple days and he just has me stumped

now What I *THINK* he is is BOTH Dominant and Recessive pied Visual
I know its a total possibility I just hand fed 3 babies that were both visually in October all of which were boys, and when they were growing it made me wonder, If they'd get the Dominant Cere or the Recessive cere and what about their eyes would they get iris rings or not.. Well I don't know about the iris rings because They went to their new homes but I did get to watch the older 2's ceres Change One got the Dominant Pied cere It was blue before he was sold, and the other got the Recessive Pied Cere it just kept getting darker and darker pink like a Recessive pied no other color and it was smooth and defiantly a recessive pied cere - those babies mom is both Recessive & Dominant pied Visually their dad was Recessive pied I didn't know their mom was Recessive pied until I bred her to him and the babies told me I never noticed she never got Iris rings I guess its just one of those things I just didn't catch on to . I thought she was just a double factor Dominant pied

but back to Bandit
I know he's yellow face type 2 and Blue and Pied but which pied? He has Iris Rings, he's he's 2 yrs old (or at least going on 2 either way he's well over 1 yr old) his cere is purple-pink and smooth not looking like it's ever going to turn actual blue but he does get some tint of blue around the base

these are the best pics I have of him He doesn't hold still very well

The Day I got him as you can see he's got a pink-blue cere right now its More Pink No blue and a bit of that pinky purple shade but theres no blue on it now - I used a Flash light so i could make certain :)

This one was taken last week - its a bit blurry but it shows his back and you can tell he has iris rings

The pic I am attaching shows his front pretty well - it is from a couple weeks after I got him he started plucking because he could hear the other birds but couldn't see them and he'd came from an aviary it took a toll on him But I took one of my other budgies and put in his cage with him and he stopped plucking and was all healed up in a couple weeks =)

I would think he is just a df domanant pied.. I have one that has the exact same markings and the cere color is very common with df domanant pieds, plus his body color is on his rump, instead of lower breast like recessive :)

I didn't think it was possible for a recessive pied bird to have iris rings but maybe I am wrong I have just never had one that was both :)

He looks like a double factor dominant pied. It is not uncommon for male DF dominant pieds to have a pink cere. A combination of dominant and recessive pied would be unlikely to have iris rings

Thanks Guys I was right the first time around I knew I was just over thinking it LOL but had to make sure, I tend to do that often just not used to a males cere not being the color it should be by this age but now that i know its normal I can figure out who I'm putting him with.

too bad I've never been able to locate his breeder, Would save me a lot of time If i knew what his parents were so I'd know if he has any splits but oh well I'll just do it the old fashioned way and the way I always do it =) Breed em' know what I should get , get surprises and then I know what they carry lol

You know, ATV, I was thinking. If he did NOT have iris rings when you got him, but they developed later, it's possible that his breeder could have just put and old ring on a new chick. He could be younger than you think.

That's a possibility, I'll go through my pics I can't remember If he had them when I got him or not. But I've had him for a while now so the memory isn't serving me well Thank god for pics to go back on to LOL

Edit; the pic i posted first is of the day I got him - he did have iris rings in that picture I just didn't notice them in person and didn't notice it at first when i took the pics either You pointed it out to me in a email (I think i was all excited over the bird and left my mind behind that day lol)

Oh, yeah, now that I look at the pic, I see the iris rings! Well, in that case I would just assume the breeder put on the right ring. :p
