Hi, I think my budgies a girl but, been reading up about recessive males and stuff and now not 100% sure. I haven't got a pic, so I drew one myself :proud:

She/He has a darkish pink beak with a few white lines and dots in the centre of her/his cere. My guess for her/his age is about 6-7 months because she/he has light black lines and not too many, on her/his forehead, I'm not sure with anything else!

Also if anyone can tell the age by this (I doubt it :p), please tell me!

Drawing on a computer with paint is SOOO hard! ;) :budgie:

Your budgie is a dominant pied, not recessive. From that first real photo I'm seeing an overall purplish cere, so my guess is you have a boy there. :)
A more close up photo of the face where we can better see the beak/cere will help confirm it. From that pic I'm not seeing any white.

And to me your budgie looks much younger than 6 -7 months old. I even dare to say he hasn't gone through his first moult yet. He is opaline and that makes the markings appear more thin. From the photos, I'd say he is below 4 months old.

Hi and :welcome: to Talk Budgies!

In your other thread, linked below
http://talkbudgies.com/general-budgie-talk/295889-budgie-questions-please-answer.html
you indicate you got your budgie from a breeder, that it is female and is 7-8 months old.

I'm curious as to why, if you got her from a breeder, you are not trusting the information regarding the gender and age that the breeder told you? Do you believe the breeder was not honest? :S

Aluz,
Thanks I'll get a clearer picture uploaded tomorrow, that picture looks purple but the cere is actually pinkish, or at least I'm pretty sure...
I would've got one now but he/she's asleep.
Opaline, huh? Pretty cool :budgie:

I know he/she lost a feather yesterday... I'm suprised he/she isn't even 4 months!? He/she doesn't really have any stripes on his/her head but I'm not sure. I'll put on more clearer pics tomorrow, thanks :)

FaeryBee,
The breeder is one of my brothers friends, he's been doing it for a few years but said to me that he wasn't too sure on the gender and all he said for the age was "The birds definitely young, under 1 year, still a baby"

OK -- with the additional information you've now provided the questions you asked make more sense to me.

aluz is very knowledgable with regard to determining both gender and age so the information she provided/provides will be accurate! :D

A close up picture of the face so we can see the forehead, beak and cere and another side pic so we can properly see the eyes to have a better estimate on age.

From the two photos I'm pretty confident this budgie is very young, the cere has the immature colour (dominant pied males have the mature royal blue ceres at 6 months of age). If the eyes are fully black that will also further prove he is young.
From that second photo where he is sleeping I can see the barring that appears to cover a good portion of the forehead. Because he is opaline, the barring isn't that easy to see as it is thinned out due to the reversed pattern.

Thanks all, I'll post one more pic in the morning when I can get a clear picture, I'm not too sure on the male part, I thought the white bits would be the beginning of the females cere turning white but I'll see. If she/he is a boy, I'll have to rename, again! And just as he/she got used to her/his name, lol :p

I just contacted the breeder on Facebook, he said he'll look through his notepad cause that's where he writes down the birthdays of the budgies. He thinks it's 6 weeks but he'll get back to me soon. :budgie:

I agree with all that's been said. Your budgie appears to be a young male, from what I can tell.

Aluz and FaeryBee have given great advice :)

Those pictures are much better! And I can now tell you that your gorgeous budgie is 100% male. And he is in fact very young like I thought before, his tail feathers still have some growing up to do, the feathers on his shoulder are still sprouting and haven't settled yet, so 6 weeks old seems right to me and does make sense. :)

I hope he has been eating well, since he is still so young.

Your little boy is very cute!
The last pictures you posted of him show just how handsome he is.
I love  the first picture of those two.

What are you going to name him?
