He has a yellow spot on the top of his head.

I am not going to say what I think he is, because I am not 100% sure. I want to hear your opinion, please.

What a beautiful bird!!! I am throwing out a few things off the top of my head so wait for the experts to chime in. I see Yellowface II because it has gone into the wings as well. I would think a pied of some sort although I do not see a variation in color on the stomach. Judging by the cere if it is pinky purple like it looks I think it rules out Dom Pied and leaves recessive pied or maybe clearflight(Not sure if CF have a pink cere).

I appreciate that you also stated the reasons why or why not he would be called a certain way.
He does have a spot on the top of his head, but just as you mentioned, his chest/belly is uniform (mauve?) color.
When I looked closer, he has some white areas around his legs.

If he is YF type 2, what is his base color? Mauve???
Oy, this boy is giving me a headache :)

I think he is a Goldenface Type II sky blue clearflight (also possibly cinnamon, can't really tell from the picture) :)

i see mauve golden face greywing clearflight! very pretty!

the golden face gives him the bright face and yellow on wings, the greywing has diluted his wing markings and body colour, and the clearflight has given him a head spot and clearflights and tail.

how old is he? i would expect him to have a blue cere once he matures.

From the pic I would think cobolt. Too light for mauve(I have a few mauve) and too dark for sky blue. His color may change slightly if the yellow continues into the belly after the next moult. I can see why you say mauve though. Maybe another pic will help.

No worries. The powers that be will check the genetics threads when they come on and give you a more definite answer. More pics will help. I am really interested to see the answer on your little guy too. He is really stunning.

Upon checking this site http://www.***************/colorsguide.html#basecolor
I am getting closer to naming this color: clearflight dominant pied mauve but there is still the fact, as some of you noted, that his wing markings are lighter.
hi again,

clearflight and dominant pied are two different types of pied, it is not common for a bird to have both and they would have a lot of white on them. he looks like a clearflight in the pic.

i think you are right about the mauve, he does not look right for a cobalt and greywing lightens the body colour a bit. greywing also makes the wing markings grey rather than black, are his markings grey - they look it in the pic but they can be different in reality....

and i am confident about him also being golden face.

Gorgeous bird! He looks just like two of my current chicks, goldenface cobalt greywings mine are, like yours without the pied :p

He does look clearflight but lately I'm so confused with pieds, I have 5 other chicks that look like clearflights but are dominant pied because the dad isn't clearflight.. so there you go LOL

Thank you Dean.

What is the difference between YF and goldenface? Does anyone have a pic that compares YF and goldenface? TIA.

He's Outstanding! I think he's a Goldenface Type II mauve/grey cinnamon dom. pied.
Who cares, call him a Rainbow if you want to! Haha...what a handsome little man!

Golden face is a single mutation, they don't come in type 2s. It is the yellow face mutations that have two types
