Hi there!

Been about six months since I got my first Budgie. He met a tragic fate (we've all heard stories about cats and dogs and their lack of mixing well with budgies, but who among you have ever heard of your pet rat being the one who does the deed? I sure hadn't, but that rat is not among us any more either...) that I regret nearly daily, but I've decided to give myself another chance with another lovely budgie. This time I will NOT build my own cage that includes a lower level for the ratties, no matter how safe I think it is. And Leto will not be out when Eitil is, certainly not...I've learned my lesson, though it had to be the...worst way that I could. Poor Tiki.

I had almost given up on birds, but...then I found Andrea. Andrea is a lady who breeds Budgies here near Birmingham, and...who am I to resist a breeders' Budgie? A handfed little guy who could probably win the "cutest budgie ever" contest, who I've been in love with since last month...I cannot wait to meet my Eitil. Eitil is Irish (/gaelic) for "To Fly", I think. He will be coming home to me by the end of this week, if I have any luck! He's fully feathered, but Andrea thinks he needs more time. I'm patient; I know how to handfeed, but I'm so paranoid about it!

I...really only have guesses as to what he is. I'd ask her, but I've already bothered the poor woman enough, hahaha! Bless her heart, but she puts up with me so awesomely.

My closest guess as to what Eitil's coloring is is...dilute skyblue with...maybe opaline, since he doesn't seem to have much in the way of barring on his head? Or am I mistaking that sign for something else? Maybe yellowface too, but it's sure pale if it is. Is yellowface usually as dilute? I think one of his clutchmates is a yellowface dilute; somebody else has reserved one, I'm just not sure if they're brothers. I'm also confused as to why his flight feathers seem to have no coloring. He doesn't LOOK pied. There was a picture of him a little bit back and I don't think he had any mottling on his belly.

Whatever he is, my baby Budgie is GORGEOUS, isn't he? I'm so anxious to go get him, hee!

Awww, thank you guys! I love to figure out names for my pets. :) My rats were Leto and Demeter, those are fairly standard, so was Tiki...so I decided to go with something more interesting for the new guy! Also, it sounds like something that if he could learn to talk he would have fun saying. :p Eeeeeeeetil. I'm not sure how good they are with the 't' sound, but. We'll see.

He looks kind of yellowface-y to me, yeah; and I THINK I see it in his wings and his tail too...so maybe he is one, and a type two at that. That would be gorgeous after a moult or two! Maybe greywing or clearwing, I...really can't tell. -scratches head- I'm pretty sure he's dilute though, that's what she says he is...ugh, it's really confusing, haha!

Sorry, I'm not a pro at mutations. But some other members on here are really great, so I'll let them tell you what mutation he is.

I just wanted to say I LOVE that picture of Eitil! He looks so cute with his wet cheeks. :p He is stunning! :)

I'm viewing the photo through my phone so it's a little difficult to say. I think he is either a YF2 Dilute Sky blue or a YF2 Greywing Sky blue. Judging from his cheek feathers, I'm leaning more towards the Dilute :)

to me looks like a yellow face Sky blue grey wing opaline

The grey wing actually makes all markings including baby bars very light

could also be Dilute - another cause for markings to be very light

You won't know if he's type 1 or 2 yellow face until he's older and goes through his molts though (SOME more advanced breeders can tell this young - I can't though)

Also - no mice/rats don't mix with birds, I had a mouse problem at my other house, they chewed the tails off of all my cockatiels -their is something in the feathers the mice like I can't remember what it is called off the top of my head though

Woops, totally forgot the Opaline part!

I always get confused with the differences of Dilute and Greywing, unless the body color is not that light and it will be obviously Greywing.

Judging from the cheek feathers, I'm also going to say Dilute as my Shiloh had the same light blue cheek feathers and he was a Dilute.

I think you have a type 2 yellow face opaline dilute sky blue. The body colour is too light for it to be a clearwing or a grey wing. It is very beautiful and it will be even more beautiful when it is mature
