I've had him for about a year now, got him from a friend - She bred him to a Normal Green pied and didn't get anything out of the ordinary so far I've only bred him to an Albino and got all Lutino's

but what I've noticed since the day I got him is he does not look like any of the other Lutinos I've seen rather its ones I've owned, in person(other peoples birds/ pet stores) or pictures

Over all he's 2-3xs Darker yellow than your Average lutino

his cap is a bit lighter than his over all body color (never seen this with any other lutino and I've had a lot)

on his wings he has Lighter spots here and there that would be "markings" if it wasn't for him being a lutino - But I can't figure out what sort of Wing markings they resemble (spangle, Dominant Pied, Recessive pied)

Here's a couple pictures I just took of him today

Back In April

Then when I got him this past January

Any Ideas of why he is so much darker in color than the average lutino and why he has white "splotches" when he should be pure yellow Yes he is a Lutino this much I know :D

So there are still things that even an expert like you wonders about. I'm waitng to see what the other experts think of this one.

I think it was you who wrote on another thread that lutinos can mask other mutations.

What exactly were the chicks' mutations from your friend's pairing with the "normal green pied"? If none of the chicks were visual recessive, perhaps he's masking a recessive mutation.

Then again, since I'm no expert, I can only guess. I hope Nev or Lindsey will come along soon to opine. :)

I have had lutinos like this before too :)

It is not showing anything through about what the bird is masking, its quite common from what I have read in inos, df spangles, and Dark eyed clears :)

lol yep - no one knows everything about the birds :) even when it is their own lol

yes Lutino is one of the mutations that mask other mutations If i remember right she just got Green Dominant pieds and Normal Greens the hen was a Dominant pied and no double factor dominant pied - so Dominant pied is out of the equation - which is okay with me I have tons of em' lol

the more I look at him and the pics the more the lighter white splotches almost resemble Spangled markings to me. but if it was than she would of gotten at least 1 spangle when they had babies - it's dominant and I always get at least 1 baby when 1 parent is the Spangle.

I know Lutinos can vary in shade- But Aidan in my view does a little more than Vary in shade lol the pics doesn't show how dark his yellow is because the camera washes it out Even though Only 1 pic had a flash used and that was the 1st one - the rest were no flash just light coming in from the windows and I had the light on in the birds room. but his yellow is very deep almost a golden yellow then his head is lighter that actually resembles the normal yellow color of Lutinos - then there is the odd splotches of white

I kept one of his sons from when I bred him to my Albino the baby hatched june 5 2011 so he's 5 months old now and has molted 1 time at least already- he's the shade of the Average Lutino and I do not see any white splotches on him at all.

I will have to dig through my pics and see if I have any better ones of their baby- this is the one I have on Photo bucket - and he was too close to the camera the flash washed out his wings they're not that light they are the same color as his head lol

Here's Hayden (Aidan and Hope's baby)

I'll try to get better pics of him this week though
