Yellow droppings from my cockatiel

169 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  FaeryBee
First of all i would like to apologize i no longer have budgies i have cockatiels. I used to have a budgie but unfortunately she died. So i bought myself a female cockatiel which has been my friend for quite sometime and i recently bought a new male and once again i need help with your advice. I bought this bird yesterday and it made my day until i noticed that its droppings are different than my cockatiel. As you can see in the pictures the droppings are quite yellow and kinda mustard and when i searched it, its said liver disease and when i called the pet shop he told me that its normal cause he eats a lot of greens which i found really odd! He said its okay to trade but i really like this one he seems to be very healthy, active and he eats good too. Please give me your opinion as i don't want to lose this bird and i don't want my other bird to get infected as well and lose them both.

You need to have the new bird examined by an Avian Veterinarian.
If there are no Avian Veterinarians near you, the next best option is an exotic pet veterinarian that has experience dealing with birds.

The purpose of this forum is to promote the BEST PRACTICES in care of budgies for the birds’ optimal Health and Well-Being

Locating an Avian Veterinarian

Avian Vets have special training to determine the cause of symptoms resulting from illness or trauma.

When you rely on anyone who has not had training in Avian diagnosis and care, you may be delaying effective treatment.
This can prolong suffering that may be avoidable.
The bird will often require a more intense, prolonged treatment with a poorer chance of full recovery than it would have if you seek prompt professional diagnosis and treatment at the first sign of illness.

You always have the ability to contact an on-line Avian Veterinarian

Thank you for the warm greetings. My bird is actually in a good health he's very active and playful and he eats a lot i think it was just the food that they were feeding him in the pet store as i been observing his droppings and they have changed even though the droppings are still kinda yellow but i can see that its improving day by day. I can't seem to find a good avian as it is very difficult to find one where i live and thats the reason why i come here. Just a week before i was about to return him at the pet store and when they examined the bird they told me that he's in a very good health. I hope that he's improving cause i honestly don't see any sign of sickness its just that the results on google scared me 😅.
I'm glad your cockatiel is doing well at this time.

However, you need to find a veterinarian or a professional that you can consult if the time comes your cockatiel becomes ill or injured.
Only a professional can diagnose and prescribe treatment for a bird. This was all explained to you in my post above.
