I've had a really great day with my flock today.
Since Skye has been socialising with them, he has matured in his budgie ways. Yet, he's also let the others develop their curiosity. As I've previously posted, they have been over to see me quite often now. Today I had Sunny and Jimmy land on my head, albeit briefly and they were also both sitting on my hand and feeding.
That would never have happened without Skye. When I had the others before Skye came up, Jimmy never came over, even though he used to for millet.
Anyway, once Skye was back in the single cage (a bit sad because he spent last night in the bigger cage when the others bunked down together), I progressed to some head scratches with him. He closed his eyes and enjoyed it and then seemed to realise and took a step sideways so I withdrew and let him realise it wasn't anything to be afraid of. I put my hand in again, speaking to him as I moved slowly to where he sat. He didn't move and once I made sure he was comfortable, I gave him a little rub on the side of his face. Again his little eyes closed and this time he didn't step away.
I didn't do it for long and just kept it short and sweet.
I love that Skye is getting the best of both worlds. Interaction with his budgie pals and human company. I think I shall keep him interacting with Jay. I notice whenever I let the group out, she often returns to her cage a long time before the others and stays there. During the time when they're all out like this, Jay usually pays attention to Skye then, so I'm going to use this to my advantage.
