Smile Molly's Journal

First, let me say, I love this site! It has really helped me with my new friend, Molly. Thanks all. Found Molly in my backyard last September 27, 2015. She is pretty wild. I had a budgie many years ago, but I really didn't know about how to care for one. So, until I found this site, I have realized I have done some things I shouldn't. Like gently grab her when I need to put her in another cage. Of course this just made her more scared of me, but I didn't know what else to do until I found your site and helpful suggestions from others. It's been a month and she is still wild and scared somewhat, so I've started over with her training and bonding this week. She eats and drinks well. I don't change cages anymore. The only time I put my hand in her cage is to clean it or give her food and water. I was trying to get her to eat a piece of millet from my fingers and got close to her chest a few times, but she wouldn't get on my finger or even try some and she'd back away after just a little bit, so I will try that much later after we bond a little more.I talk to her several times a day. Sometimes she looks at me and may cock her head, sometimes she might just ignore me or seem scared. She has a few moments of screaming and trying to get out of cage. She likes to climb upside down, sometimes close to me. It seems she is interacting with me. I hope so. She's a joy to watch. Today, I saw her upside down, bobbing her head, I thought, in her water tray. Taking a bath? When I tried to look better she quit. So I put a small tray of water on the bottom of her cage. She eyed it but I'm not sure if she used it. Thought she might have cause when I touched the door to the cage, it seemed wet. Maybe she splattered some water. So I am going to try and have more patience with her and also get her a bigger cage.

Very sweet story. This place has taught me just about everything I know about budgies, it is a tremendous resource for any who want to learn. Even though Molly was wild, she obviously has grown used to your presence, and I believe will continue to grow in her trust as you apply the sound principles and patience. Looking forward to reading Molly's journal....

t sounds like Molly has found a wonderful forever home. As you don't know any of her background training and bonding can be a little tricky . the main thing is Patience and time which you are prepared to give her by the sounds. Here are a few links that might help you.

Smile Close to bonding

10/31/2015 Today Molly seemed to bond with me some. I notice she liked me saying baby and giving kisses to her by her head turning. Also she reacted to 'come here' and 'come see me'. Sweet girl she is. I also put a little bath in her cage and caught her drinking and I think sprinkling herself with it to bathe herself. How cute is that! She nibbled at some lettuce yesterday but didn't eat it. I put some more in today and a small carrot top but no eating yet. She's not rattling the cage doors like she had been. I think she is really calming down some. I feel bad for her she has a small cage, but haven't been able to get her a bigger one yet. https://youtu.be/xuiL1Wx1_Rs

I also am in the process of training a found budgie( and a newbie to the budgie world as well). They can require a lot of patience! Looks like your budgie has found a loving and safe home If you are still having trouble getting her to eat from your hand you can try just holing some millet up to the side of her cage to see if she will eat it. that way she is still eating from your hand but she might feel safer behind her cage doors. Worked for my little Rebel. Best of luck to you and Molly! I look forward to watching her progress!
