I got Jewel at 11 weeks old. He had been hand tamed by the breeders 7 year old son. When I first brought him home he was obviously scared of the change of home, scenery and human and I left him to settle in a few days. I talk to him a lot, lots of "hello Jewel, pretty Jewel, pretty birdie" and I tell him I'm changing his water or food etc.
He's been here a week tomorrow and although he stepped on my finger the first few tries he had stopped doing it (probably lack of trust I assume) He doesn't huddle on the top perch at the back of the cage, he now comes to the front and swings in his rings. Yesterday he ate seed from my flat hand for the first time and he put one foot in my hand to reach more seed.
Today Ive done my usual sitting with the cage, talking to him and I put my hand in near his perch and he hopped down from his kuttle fish (makes a lovely seat ya know!) onto his perch, he mouthed my hand but then stepped straight onto it without seed! I wasn't expecting it, I just wanted him to get more used to me but I'm so pleased with that progress. He did then use my hand as an easy step down between his perch and his swing haha.
Picture of him swinging and playing on his rings.
