Hello. So I have read all the taming and bonding posts to learn as much as possible. I have had my baby caboose for about 2 weeks now. He is around 3 months old. Sometimes he perches on my finger for a very brief time then hops off and other times he runs away. He will eat a piece of millet if i'm holding the end, but if I put the millet on my hand he will not eat it from it. I will attach a picture to show. I see him pant a lot so I know he's scared. Should I keep trying to bond with him everyday or let him be for a few more days? He is certainly chirping a lot more everyday. He even chirps back to me sometimes when I talk to him or sing a song to him. He flies around his cage a lot more as well. Also Would he eat the millet out of fear if he thinks I might hurt him if he doesn't eat it? Sorry for so many questions.
Your little Caboose is still scared and it requires time to earn a budgie's trust.
That is what taming and bonding is all about -- helping Caboose learn to trust you.
You will need to work at his pace.
Having short sessions for 10-15 minutes on a regular and consistent basis each and every day is important.
Be sure to talk calmly and reassuringly to Caboose when you are working with him and always use positive reinforcement.
I'll make this thread into an Ongoing Training journal for Caboose and you can update his progress over the next few weeks.
Greetings, faerybee has given you wonderful advice.it will take some time to earn its trust completely.but you're on the right track.you gotten it to eat from your hand.in time hopefully your budgie will want to spend more time with you.good communication and patience will go a long way.Blessings and good luck.keep us posted.

Here is an update for today. For some reason he is afraid of my hand today. He is running away from it. I don't know what I did to cause it. Yesterday he wasn't scared. But also this morning when I woke up I noticed something on his cere. I have no idea what it is. I tried giving him two spray bathes in the morning then at night. He hates them. But whatever it is wasn't coming off at all. I even soaked him. It's been a really hot day. He doesn't let me put my fingers next to his cere to try and remove it. Could it be a scab or something he developed over night?
