Bubs is on a distinguished road
Default Bubs' Training Journal (Ongoing Thread)

I have had Bubs for 3 weeks. He goes out 2-3 times a day, he plays with his toys, chirps and seems settled and happy. Think he is fantastic. I slowly put hand in but flies straight out. He is gd and flies in on own. How do I finger train him as he lively?! Thank you.

Hi again,

Before starting with finger training, the foundations of trust must be established, and this is done by spending time with your budgie and getting him used to your presence and voice. You will know when to proceed by looking at Bubs body language and behaviour and this can be seen when he shows real curiosity towards you and actually moves closer to you when you interact with him (whether in or out of the cage)
Since your Bubs is already used to having out of cage time, you can do short training sessions with him either inside the cage, or on his play area when out of the cage. When in the cage you can slowly place your hand in and offer Bubs a little tasty treat to eat in order to encourage him to perch on your hand/finger. You can use this same method when having out of cage time.
If your Bubs has a favourite toy he likes to play with, you can use this toy to reward him during the finger training sessions.
When training it's also important to keep the verbal communication going (praise words) by using your voice in a calm, positive, encouraging and reassuring way.

The detailed information on the stickies at the top of this section will surely help you on your taming journey.
You can start by checking this link: https://talkbudgies.com/taming-bondin...-training.html

Good luck!

aluz has provided you with excellent advice and a good resource.

It takes a lot of time and patience to bond with your budgie.
If you take things slowly at his pace, then over time he will learn to trust you.

I have found that a great way to build trust and camaraderie with my budgie is through food. Everybody loves food right? Seeds are great, but I also like to hand feed Apollo slices of veggies like cucumber, carrots, or yams, for example. He makes a game of it, eating some, and tearing the rest of it to shreds and tossing the bits all about. Start with something you know he likes and offer it to him from your hand. It might take a while, so don't push it, just keep trying and eventually he will come to you. Once he establishes a connection between your fingers and yummy treats he will be more inclined to want to climb all over you.

Default Bubs Finger

So excited. Bubs went out tonight on the table and for the first time went on my finger. He loves my phone and was curious. I put my finger at the bottom and he climbed onto it to get to the phone. Can't believe it. Watch this space for it to become a regular thing? So happy.

Congratulations on Bubs' very first step up to your finger!
You can continue to train Bubs on the step up command by using the phone as a reward, since he likes it so much.

You are making great progress with little Bubs in a very short amount of time. Well done!

I've combined your two threads regarding training into one, moved it to Training Journals and made it to an on-going thread for you.

You can keep track of all of Bubs' training accomplishments in this one thread now.
