Total side (and funny) thing from today. Apparently Kiger decided (after a little over a year of living with us) that he wanted to take a bath....in the water dish. Boyfriend comes into the living room to see Kiger soaked. The only thing he could have taken a bath in is their water dish... I am kinda sad I missed it. Their little bath dance is adorable!

I might have been slacking off on giving them their spritz baths lately... I best get back into the habit of that.

Good for Kiger for deciding to try out bathing!
I hope you got a picture of him while he was totally wet. :)

Clicker training went over well-ish last night. Nether has their usual attention span but we got some work in all the same. Kiger still wants to wave no matter what I am asking him to do... There is less of a pause when asking for upside-down, shake is still not his strong point and we are working on loop.

Max is doing really well with the wooden pointer. He will still have his episodes where he hesitates... but the reasons seem to vary. Sometimes I think he still cant quite see it, other times he is distracted by Kiger. Its less often that he has this issue however so its still an improvement.

Ziggy and Star are doing their own thing. I am giving them time to settle into the new room still before I go and start working with them again. My hope is they will see how relaxed Kiger and Max are with me and will eventually relax themselves.

I don't have a good picture of Kiger post-bath but I do have a picture.

Max appears to be so concerned :)

EDIT: Now its fixed?! Ok...

So I was looking at what Star's mutation is. From what I've read I think she is a light green graywing? I have only a passing understanding of the different mutations so I am not confident about what she is....

No real updates. We just chilled last night. I am kinda sorta starting to work with Ziggy and Star again now that they have had a few days to adjust. They appear to be doing just fine. They have started to play with their toys... and by play I mean destroy all the chewables.

That picture of Max and Kiger is too cute! I think Star might be a light green opaline greywing? I'm not entirely sure though, I'm pretty sure about the opaline though. I'm glad everybudgie is doing well!

sdodo 06-16-2017 01:26 PM

I had to look at my known opaline Max to be sure, but yeah I think you are right, light green opaline graywing... That was part of what was throwing me off I think, her head and upper back markings are really faint or not there at all, compared to the pictures I saw online where those markings while gray, were still visible.

Well... training didn't go over well last night. They were distracted and I was worn out. Kiger had been being a little stinker about going into the other room and continued to be a...er hinder during training. I worked on 'up' and 'perch' with him and he was not interested.

Flock dynamics are all up in the air right now and between that and some life stuff I find myself frustrated. That's all me, they are just doing what they do. That will pass, all will be well and eventually things will work out with who likes who.

Some good news! Star has taken to playing with some of their toys, and by playing I mean absolutely destroying :) She had this balsa toy over the weekend that was just about gone by Sunday. There is another toy in there right now (again balsa) that is just about completely gone... Admitedly while its great that she is playing with toys I am wary about hormones. I have read about how to avoid eggs already but my two questions are 1) if her cere is white do I need to even be concerned? 2)What behavior should I be worried about?
I bought up a bunch more toys for them to destroy. Ziggy is kind of chewing on things but apparently he never was much for toys...

FaeryBee 06-16-2017 06:11 PM

Yes, even when the cere stays white you need to be wary. That's not to say you have to "worry" -- simply be observant and watch what she's doing. :)

If Star begins piling up the shavings she creates from the balsa, or trying to use anything at all in the cage as a potential nesting site then you'll need to cut back on her daylight hours.
However, you may find that she simply likes shredding/destroying toys and that's all the farther it will go. :fingerx:

Ok! An update of sorts.

I mentioned flock dynamics were all up in the air. Things are finally starting to settle down. When I had the original meet and greet Kiger fell instantly in love with Ziggy and began to be aggressive to Max more so when Ziggy was around but even when it was just Max and Kiger, Kiger's food aggression was starting to get worse. I went back and forth on what to do and eventually ended up with Kiger and Ziggy living together in one cage and Max and Star in the other. Kiger and Ziggy appear to be very happy with this arrangement. Max is warming up to Star. So far the dynamics between them is similar to how Max and Kiger were. Star sometimes gets her way but other times Max just needs to stand tall and they squeaky toy at each other and she back down. Its not that often that they are having issues but I am keeping an eye on them.

I am going to keep going with clicker training. Max and Kiger might be a bit distracted for a bit but that is nothing new.

I will admit I am the one struggling with the change. Its tough for me to see Kiger and Max separate, but Kiger is still his usual millet begging goofball and Max doesn't appear to be too heartbroken over the split. I've noticed he is dancing more now. They are both happy and that is what matters. Star has been busy exploring the new cage as well. I'm not use to a budgie being so curious about everything.

All in all things are good for now. We will see how things are going forward. One good thing that has come from this is we are all eating the same pellets. The RPO pellets I give them are apparently preferred over Harrison high potency. Ziggy and Star are also both starting to investigate the veggies they get since that is what Kiger (and to a lesser extent Max) go crazy for. Now if only the taming process was so easy :) Taming is a work in progress...that hasn't made much progress...

It sounds to me as if things are going well!
