Good birdie training today. Star is back from her short day vacation and she isnt biting for step up. Max has been being a super good boy about step up, staying with me when i take him out of the cage. Maru has always been a good boy buutttt I think he is in that teenage phase and wants to be a strong independent budgie who dont need no human. Ziggy and Pip were ok but nether is great.
I put together the stick things used for weaving like they have dogs do...im to tired to remember what they arw called. Step 1 is to introduce Max to them so when we do eventually, someday consider learning that trick. The main thing is Max doesnt fo new things so its best to get him use to them now. I might post a picture eventually.
Wow, agility training for budgies! That sounds very cool. I'll look forward to hearing how that goes.
Its the weaving trick, I remember flock talk trained her parrotlets to do the trick and ever since I saw the video of it I've wanted to teach the budgies but never found (until recently) toy parts that I could put together to set up for the trick. I was browsing Abirdtoystore for toy parts for making toys when I noticed there were pine blocks and paper straws that would fit together.
I am excited but at the same time we are still a ways off from starting on the trick. Max hasnt even started on pickup. Hopefully his recent change in behavior (being a good little bird) will help things along.
Maru refused to target until I brought ziggy in. I worked with them both then. I'd have ziggy target and gave him millet. Eventually I started asking Maru to target. Then I'd ask ziggy to wave. Rince and repeat. Maru was targeting and ziggy is improving on wave.
Meanwhile Star was being a brat and refused to work with me.
A random little side note, I think Maru is mimicing the clicker sound. Not 100% sure since I was half asleep and it was only the one time, but i wouldnt be surprised if he was mimicing the sound.
We had some drama last night. Max felt a need to remind the world that he is indeed a jerk and first pushed Maru off a swing. I took maru out and he went after ziggy. He bit ziggy on the foot causing him to bleed a fair bit. We got the bleeding stopped but the foot is swollen. He is putting weight on it and acting normal so we are just giving him anti inflammatory meds for a few days.
Meanwhile i worked on getting Max ok with the ball. Pippin worked on wave, Maru targeted all by himself ans star was being selective about targeting.
