Awh! Thank you!

It was funny when I first saw it I was thinking it was Max but second guessed myself. So I show budgie daddy and ask him. I got the usual 'I dont know...maybe?'

A random little news update.

So Star has been being a broody chicken for a few weeks now, the whole looking for nesting spots, aggression, and eventually mating with Max. We tried a short day vacation but it did not appear to help.

Yesterday I noticed her vent looked different and contacted our vet before moving her to her own cage. Between the large droppings she had been producing and the whole vent looking different thing I suspected she was going to lay. It still caught me by surprise when I popped into bird cam this morning to see she had laid an egg overnight.

I am keeping her separated from the boys and monitoring her. So far she seems to be ignoring it as it sits on the cage floor. Not sure if that means this is a one off thing or if She will still lay more. The current game plan is if she ignores it I will likely pull it after a few days but keep it in case she does lay again. If she does opt to try and sit on it I will wait for her to lay a few more and then take measures to ensure the eggs wont hatch but allow her to sit on them until she is done.

I admit there is part of me that wants them to be fertile and wants them to hatch but I am adamantly against breeding her and contributing to the unwanted budgie population.

I will keep everyone posted!

Good luck I hope she stops laying. I currently have the same problem with one of my hens, looking for nesting sites all over, she is not tame and she even flew over and sat on my shoulder looking down inside the front of my shirt, I guess to see if it was a suitable spot.

Hopefully, little Miss Star won't continue to lay and will ignore the egg she has already produced.

Whoa! Watch out you may be a coveted nesting site!

Wow it has been a hot minute since I last did any training. I have not returned to trick training but I did do some good birdie training tonight!
First though. An update on star. She only laid the one and ignored it. I am saving it for the hypothetical situation where she does go to lay a clutch and use it to persuade her to stop at a fewer number of eggs. She is back with the boys now and is as sassy as ever.

I first worked with Max who is good about step up and staying for a hot minute on your finger but isnt consistent with staying once out of the cage, nor is he good about stepping up while out if the main cage in any room that isnt bedtime cage room. I just had him step up, step down onto the top of the cage and then step up again and stay with me until he was on a perch in the cage.

Next was star. Who bit me. So her training was all about dont bite human! She would only get a treat if she stepped up without biting OR lunging to bite. After a few go rounds and lots of bites she got the idea.

Ziggy is the worst about stepping up in general so I focused on just having him step up while in the cage.

Maru is the best of the bunch when it comes to stepping up in the cage, outside the cage and being a perch potato and staying with you. So really the thing for him was to keep him constantly with me and actually step down onto the perch when done. Baby wanted a treat so badly he didnt want to step down!

A side note. ive been having budgie daddy put them to bed more. They have been usually really good for him but he has now experienced stardust bites. He now also takes them out of their main cages for out of cage time as well as. He is really starting to get comfortable with having them step up for him and they are fine with stepping up for him...well as well about it as they are with me

Birdie pedicures were today and gosh did we need them. Max remains king of being a drama queen but Ziggy takes a close second. When I was done I opened my hand to let him fly free and he just laid there on my palm.
-sigh-

Too funny that he just laid there.
I guess he was trying to tell you the procedure was exhausting!
