Wow it has been a hot minute since I last did any training. I have not returned to trick training but I did do some good birdie training tonight!
First though. An update on star. She only laid the one and ignored it. I am saving it for the hypothetical situation where she does go to lay a clutch and use it to persuade her to stop at a fewer number of eggs. She is back with the boys now and is as sassy as ever.
I first worked with Max who is good about step up and staying for a hot minute on your finger but isnt consistent with staying once out of the cage, nor is he good about stepping up while out if the main cage in any room that isnt bedtime cage room. I just had him step up, step down onto the top of the cage and then step up again and stay with me until he was on a perch in the cage.
Next was star. Who bit me. So her training was all about dont bite human! She would only get a treat if she stepped up without biting OR lunging to bite. After a few go rounds and lots of bites she got the idea.
Ziggy is the worst about stepping up in general so I focused on just having him step up while in the cage.
Maru is the best of the bunch when it comes to stepping up in the cage, outside the cage and being a perch potato and staying with you. So really the thing for him was to keep him constantly with me and actually step down onto the perch when done. Baby wanted a treat so badly he didnt want to step down!
A side note. ive been having budgie daddy put them to bed more. They have been usually really good for him but he has now experienced stardust bites. He now also takes them out of their main cages for out of cage time as well as. He is really starting to get comfortable with having them step up for him and they are fine with stepping up for him...well as well about it as they are with me
