I have made great progress with Avis and training. Yesterday I started clicker training and introduced target training. Today I have made phenomenal progress. Avis can now target and knows how to react to the clicker. Now I just need to reinforce it.

Also great progress with trust and bonding. Avis rubbed his head on my hand a little bit. This is the first time he has done this and I think it may be a sign of the start of trust.

That's excellent progress.

However, in your other thread you indicated you got him around May 25th of this year.
I'm assuming that was a typo and you've actually had him for at least a few weeks, correct?

Taming and Bonding shouldn't begin until a budgie has had at least two weeks to settle into his new surroundings.

It sounds as if you are off to a good start. Be sure not to rush Avis; go at his pace.

Best wishes!

Oh. Whoops, I meant I have had him since APRIL 25th of this year. And yes he has had a few weeks to acclimate.

I have had two other birds before this one so I have a moderate amount of experience with budgies

Anyway, today I wanted to test him a little to see if he would still target and he does! I love it! My next step is to train him to use the bathroom on command... or recall... what are your thoughts?

I would train him to recall- using the bathroom on command has led to birds not going unless they are commanded, which will obviously cause issues.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I last mentioned anything about Avis so I figured I might give you an update. Avis is doing well and he now likes to nibble on my ear and pull out my headphones. I also notice he is starting to try to imitate. I'm not sure what of but it is outside his normal mixture of chirps and warbles. Hopefully we will soon see him starting to talk!

Sorry for the late update but I did take my two other budgies to the vet along with Avis, which (unfortunately) cost me $200, I was informed that they were healthy- Avis’ “crop impaction” was his long throat scrunched up and the only thing with they other two was that they were a little over and underweight.
