I had a budgie, Sole (who passed away a year ago), that loved to throw bottle caps, where I used to put the seeds I rewarded him with during training, to the floor.

The reason why I wanted her to learn tricks that don't require objects first is that they would have been easier for her and that she could do that while she was on the external perch, where she is comfortable.
But, apparently, I have to switch to tricks that require her to use objects and to be on a plastic shelf that I put on the top of her cage (but she is getting used to stay there).

Celeste loves to play with a toy bell that is in her cage. I have bought a plastic toy ball with a bell inside because I was planning to teach her to fetch later on.
But I think "fetch" is perfect as the next trick: I can teach her the first steps, namely to pick the ball up and to place it in my hand, while she is on the perch, and she might like the ball because of the bell inside it.
Thanks for the suggestion, Cody!

Update!

Celeste has learned to fetch (from a perch)!
I posted a video of her performance on the "Celeste's tricks" thread.

I still can't believe she learned it so quickly and easily, in just a few days (I have been away from home from 11th to 15th)! She keeps surprising me.

As you can see in the video, I used the cage door, put horizontally, as the surface where to put the toy ball.
The first step consisted in rewarding her every time she touched the ball, just like I do when she touches the target stick. She had no problem in learning that.
However, for the second step, I would have had to teach her to pick the ball up, and it wasn't working, because the ball is pretty heavy (and it is the smallest I was able to find) and she never lifted it, not even by accident; she only moved it.
So, I decided to put the ball on the edge of the cage door, with my hand (palm up) a little below it. When she happened to make the ball fall on my hand by touching it, I rewarded her. She quickly realized what she had to do.
Then, I started to slowly increase the distance, by putting the toy in the center of the cage door, and on the opposite end.
This worked, and even if she doesn't really lift the ball to put it in my hand, but simply drags it, and doesn't do that on the shelf but only on the perch, I couldn't be more proud of her.

About the next trick... I was thinking about basketball. I made a little basketball hoop, and I guess it would be easy to teach her to put the ball in it, as it is the same concept as the "fetch" trick.
I don't know if she can lift the ball enough, though...

What a clever girl! I have heaps of the little balls that Cody pictured above. Iím more than happy to post some to you if you like. They are very light and all 3 of my budgies easily pick them up and throw them across the room (apparently itís great fun watching me fetch them for them, over and over again).

Thank you for the offer, Blingy, that would be really helpful if the ball is indeed too heavy for Celeste and I can't find anything smaller. I will probably find it out soon, as I think I will start teaching her the basketball trick in a couple days.

I saw a toy ball that was identical to one of those in Cody's picture in a pet store, but it was the same size as the one I bought (which is very similar, as you can see from the video).

Youíre welcome. Just let me know if youíd like me to send you some. Theyíre the same as the ones Cody posted a pic of, and theyíre the same size as the ones Celeste is currently using. They may be lighter though, Iím not sure. Iíll keep my eyes peeled for smaller ones and let you know if I find any.
