Training Charlie and Angel
Slowly but surely I’ve been trying to tame my budgies, I’ve put it off for a long time because I wasn’t sure if it would even work given I haven’t tried to train them for years. But I know they need exercise outside their cage and I want them to know they can trust me as I change their amenities every day.
I can now walk up to their cage without them flying away from me and recently I’ve been putting their cage right next to my bed every now and then to slowly get them accustomed to me moving around near them.
Angel, the more skittish and untrusting of the two, came down to eat her food for the first time while being within two feet of me (pictured below). It’s a small step but I’m overjoyed that she’s learning she can be vulnerable around me.
I think creating a journal for their training will help me stick to routine and maybe one day I will be able to hold them and give them a more fulfilling active life outside their cage.
Glad to hear you are making progress so far.
Having the training journal will hopefully keep you on course.
