So basically I live in dry and cold place during the winter months....if you guessed Canada you are right.
Our environment is extremely dry and our winter days can get to -35C or colder.
Obviously I'm not able to have my budgies outside, but I'm wondering about humidity levels in my house and if low levels affect my birds health?
I've looked on the Internet and read they should be kept in 40% and other sites say 60%.
I've also read that humidifiers can b bad for a budgies health.
I got a humidity meter and it says I have 20% humidity in the room my budgies are in.
Is that ok? Any info would be greats
WOW I hope you have lots of woolly Ugg boots to keep your toes nice and cosy. Humidity can be a problem as it affects the seed and food ,this in turn can cause crop problems for some budgies. As long as your bird is kept in a constant temperature the cage is covered on three sides to keep drafts and makes her feel more safe she should be ok. Also keep in mind the food dishes should be cleaned thoroughly each day and new food added.
If giving egg and biscuit or a mash of some sort them definitely discard after a few hours, seed should be a good quality and dry.
Also make sure the water is not too cold budgies tend to not like cold water .More room temperature is to their liking.
For moisture in winters placing a pan of water on heater or near the cage is normal practice.
Try putting a thermometer near your budgies cage. This is so you can then adjust the millet, towels and other things to keep it nice and warm. You should also try putting maybe another towel over their cage at night. One more thing. Change the water very regularly so the water doesn't get to cool.
Good Luck! :budgie:
I keep the room temp at 70F. There are no drafts.
