Default sick budgie- during a blizzard

this morning i find that Baby Bird is feeling a little sick. he has the usual sick symptoms: not active, not really interested in food, a little fluffed. i tried to feed him some Booster, but he moved at the last second and now its all over his face. i tried to clean some off, but it is still very much there.

his poops are mostly urine with some white (i can't remember what the white is) and he isn't eating. earlier he did take some pellets and millet when i offered it. he took maybe 3 bites of lettuce. he was preening a little and also was sleeping. the vet doesn't open until wednesday at 10 so i am not sure what else i can do... right now he is in a hospital tank with food and water with my full spectrum light on him. there is well over 2 feet of snow that we just got in the last 12 hours and its still coming down so i can't go any where.... what else can i do?!?

The white portion of the poop is the urates and if he's making clear liquid, I'd stop feeding him any veggies until you see the vet. The dark portion of the poop is the feces and from what you are saying, he isn't showing any of that in his droppings. Try giving him a bit of cooked quinoa or cooked oats

Make sure he's warm enough and is staying hydrated.
If you have sugar free electrolyte available in your Birdy First Aid Kit, you can add a little to his water.

while i was outside, i kept looking in my window to check on him. he was picking at his seeds and did eat some of the spray millet too. he was doing a lot of preening and trying to get out of the tank. he now has feces in his droppings but they are still small and wet. i removed him from the tank to clean it and washed the inside and water cup with a vinegar wash. i am going to call the vet tomorrow to make an appointment. he is a less puffed and more active- but he might be putting on a show for me...

Deb has given you wonderful advice all I can offer is try ringing an avian vet and ask for an opinion and make an appointment for as soon as possible.

Smile Sick

If you have not done so start listing items for a birdy first aid kit as Deb suggested. Electrolyte in drinking water and soak the millet spray in electrolyte and probiotics . Put the bird in a smaller warmer hospital cage and have foosd and water down on fkoor of cage. When you are clear to travel wrap a towel
totally around cage to avoid draft. Heat the car before putting the bird in seat belt. We use pet snuggle sold on amazon but sock of dry beans in microwave can help on top or bottom of cage. I hope your family is all prepared for a few days of snow.. Please let us know how your little one is doing. Best wishes Jo Ann

i took him to the vet yesterday. everything checked out good (he even slipped out of the techs hand, this is the first time it has ever happened to the tech!) the only thing off was a little bit of negative bacteria in his poop. he seems perfectly healthy and the vet wasn't sure what else to say because he did so well! he is now on baytril once a day and has Booster and Benebac in his food. today he was lively and normal, pacing back and fourth of his hospital tank. i moved him into the other room so i can see how he is without his buddies flying overhead. he appears to be doing just fine
