Default Any suggestions?

At around midnight, our furnace went out. We brought the budgies upstairs and they're covered on three sides. We have a space heater on. They seem happy, but I can't help but worry that they'll get too cold. They've been chirping all morning and singing happily when I talk to them, and being general goofballs. Still, is there anything else I can do for them?

As long as there are no drafts around the cage, they should be just fine.
Is the space heater maintaining a constant temperature in the vicinity of the cage?

I believe so. The budgies are surprisingly active, but they might also be trying to keep warm, poor things.

Unless the area around the cage is below like 48 degrees F they should be just fine.

cover cage with a space blanket and or a down blanket that will hold body heat. microwave a sock full of grain or a pet snuggle sold by amazon for portable heat. In extreme situations use an insulated cooler to sit cage in and cover with space blanket /down throw, off the floor. If Sun in window /west side use this to warm room Steaming pot of water warms the air in a room and adding a little eucalyptus oil reduces respiratory stress for birds and people.Add your electrolyte to guard against stress. give them a new chew toy or treat to eat this fuels their body heat. keep light on so they will eat and drink.Play music /budgie sounds. Advice by Deb is right on. Acclimated budgies live in aviaries that have in/out access to snow and do quite well. Blessings, Jo Ann

I just wanted to add not to put the space heater too close to the cage, because some coils are made from materials that can be toxic to birds. You have great advice above, and I'm sure that they will do just fine!

I hope that you stay warm, too!

Thanks for the advice! We have one out in the middle of the room and one four or five feet away from the budgies' cage. I'm fine. I have blankets and jackets. The birds are cuddling and chirping, so Im pretty sure they're faring well.

Default Furnace is back on!

It's been just over a day, but our furnace is back! The birds are still pretty quiet, but that's probably because of the change in scenery. They're healthy, but I think the lack of heat has made me sick! Probably just a cold, though :/
