Default Budgie is eating wood dust?

My female budgie named Lazlo went into the nest box for the first time I though she was laying an egg since she always mates with our male budgie Carlos but she was just eating the wood dust nesting material. She had eaten it months ago too but she seems fine. Could this cause problems? One of our budgies died a week ago. She was healthy but since the first day we got her she was very quiet. She used to eat the wood dust too. But the last time she ate it was like 2 months before her death. Is this okay?

The wood from which nest boxes are made is usually safe for budgies and so is the nesting material, in fact it's very normal for a female to chew the nest box a bit in order to make it more comfortable for her, this is part of nesting.
Some males like to chew the wood too, especially the outer part near the nest's entrance. I never had a bird to die because of chewing wood.

It could also be that she is lacking an important mineral or vitamin, and that her brain finds the dust weirdly satisfying.
