Default Splayed leg bandaging

My birds hatched their first clutch. The first hatched is having trouble with splayed legs. I have read up on all the info I could find on here and it has been very helpful. This is my first attempt at a bandage. It has been on for 24 hours. When first applied, the baby would just fall forward onto face with its legs stretched out behind it. Now, it is sitting and walking about with its legs where they are supposed to be. I used a self-adhering bandage on the legs. I have applied 2 bandages. One is just above the ankles and one above the knees. I am thinking that it is working, but that I may need to shorten the bandages and move the legs closer together. Any thoughts or advice anybody can offer is greatly appreciated. The little baby is 13 days old today. Thanks!

Place the strip below its knees only and position its legs under its body. Some breeders use Curad medical tape. Best wishes!

My plan is to redo the bandage tomorrow with only one strip of self adhering bandaging material just above the ankles. What I am having a hard time figuring out is how long to make the strip. I did not want to go too tight with my first taping. What is a good goal for the measurement of the length of the leg shackle? How many inches our centimeters apart should the legs be taped? And I am very happy with the results so far...baby is holding head up and walking around! A big improvement already.

Default In need of splayed leg info

I am looking for help with taping a 14 day old chick's splayed legs. I have the self adhering bandage placed just above the baby's ankles. Can somebody tell me how long the strip of tape should be? This is baby's second bandage. The strip was longer when applied the first time. It was worn for 48 hrs before falling off one leg. I am afraid I jape the legs taped to close together. Can somebody please advise? Please see attached photo of current bandaging. Thanks!

Thanks, I have read that many times, but it does not tell me how long the tape should be, or how close together I should position the legs. I have searched this site for info and cannot find any pics or info on how close together the legs should be when taped between the babies ankles and knees. I am afraid I have it too tight here

I've merged your two threads about the splayed leg bandaging into one. Having multiple threads on the same topic is too confusing.

The bandage doesn't look too tight to me but I'm not an expert.
I'm sure one of our breeders will be on line later and will weigh in with their opinion.

I'll also be sure to bring this thread to the attention of the other TB staff members.
