Default Molting flight feathers

So our budgie is molting and has lost almost all his flight feathers in one of his wings. He labors now to get from perch to perch. Is this normal? It's been some weeks that we've seen the overabundance of feathers on the cage floor and the pin-feathers coming in (no blood feathers thankfully). Just want to make sure.

Oh, and he still won't bathe. No matter what bath we provide for him with or without lettuce or other leaf-veggies. I heard that when they molt you're supposed to provide a bath for them. Well, he doesn't seem to like bathing. Thoughts?

Sound's like normal molting, you should start seeing blood feather's in the wing's to replace his flight's. Warm water mist with a spray bottle is a fine replacement for a bath, you might even find he likes it...

Okay, so it was reassuring until you mentioned blood feathers. We don't do anything with blood feathers unless they are actually bleeding, right? And if they are try to put some corn starch on them, right?

We've never grabbed him. Read that the best way to get a hold of your budgie is with a cloth so that he doesn't associate your hand with capturing but I'm afraid that he'll freak out if I put a cloth in the cage. is there another way?

Turn down the lights before trying to catch him. This will help calm him a bit.

And yes, only be prepared to pull out a blood feather and apply corn starch or styptic powder if it is bleeding. This normally only happens if you or your budgie disrupt the feathers, so hopefully it won't happen!

Good luck!

Thanks!

Another question, do they change everyone of their feathers during each molt? If so, that means that he'll lose his flight feathers on his other wing too, right?
