Feathers: A Window into Your Bird's Health
We all know that our bird's feathers can tell us if they're molting, and their age, and maybe we even know of a few other things that can come from looking at our birds' feathers. But I was looking on the web today, and found a few articles about feathers and a bird's health. I thought I would take a little of the work out of finding them yourself and just post them here. Some things you will notice are kind of obvious, but you may discover something that you didn't previously know!!!
An In-Depth Look At Bird Feathers
The above article includes topics on wing trims that I believe every bird owner should read and memorize for your birds' safety. Also it includes information on molting, molt patterns, feather damage, and stress bars.
The above article is incredibly informative. It's title is "Everything you need to know about feathers" and boy is it! I learned a lot of this in my course to be a vet assistant. My course didn't last long for birds, but I did get some for them. Anyway, This is more on the informative side on feathers themselves. The anatomy of the feather, and it's functions.
Skin and Feather Disorders of Pet Birds: Disorders and Diseases of Birds: The Merck Manual for Pet Health
This above article focuses on feather disease and disorders that affect feathers.
Vitamins for Birds' Feathers - Pets
This last article above goes into the vitamins your bird needs and how each one affects their feathers!
Anyway, I thought that I would share these article with you all, as I found them very interesting! I hope that these articles help you in providing the best care possible, and also helps you understand their feathers!
Thank you for my wonderful signature Deb!!!
