Default Is my budgie depressed? I didn't notice something odd about him until now!

Just about when I was feeding my budgie an apple I noticed how he had a lot of feathers missing!
Oh goodness, I didn't spot that until just NOW.
The top of his head is missing feathers, that you can see the pink of his scalp barely.
By the sides of his head he is missing A LOT. It looks darker and gray by the sides of his head.
You can see his ears.
...Or maybe this is all just because he rubs his head on the perch.
But i'm not too sure, since he has been acting quite differently. He barely chirps.
Should I be worried? It's hard to tell what the reason is for his sudden loss in feathers. He actually seemed fine yesterday, so I don't know why he lost so much feathers!

Did your budgie have his feathers wet? Is he a single budgie?
A photo or two would really be helpful, so that we have a better understanding of his current feather condition.

His feathers are dry, and today he awoke in the same condition.
He is a single budgie due to the loss of his pair.
But it might be because he rubs his head on the perch, then again he does show signs of being ill.
Also is photobucket the thing that allows me to post pictures? I don't know how to upload pictures on here, sorry

( I think I should take him for a check up, just to make sure.
