Some avian diseases are specific to the family in which they belong. So at least that omits some of the risk, Kowhai being a Psittacine and the Pigeons being Passerines.
I think you’ll be okay with Kowhai, but I definitely understand. We can never be too careful when it comes to quarantine. Wearing a jacket might or might not help. Technically, IF
there were pathogens on the jacket, they could get transferred to your clothing when taking it off.
Actually... “true” quarantine would mean a building with separate airflow, hazmat suit, antimicrobial footbath, shower, etc
. So when we do quarantine, we are really just doing it halfway
. It definitely does help reduce risk though, so of course it’s always recommended.
Again, I think you and your little guy will be just fine with the pigeons, with the precautions you’re taking.
