Annie was running around the apartment last night and playing hide and seek, and managed to climb behind my fridge while i was cooking dinner. I got her out and put her in her cage but now she is just sitting at the bottom of her cage fluffed up. she’s typically puffed up during the day, but i’ve never noticed her sitting at the bottom. is this a sign that she is sick? she is cuddled up in my lap right now taking a snooze, but i just don’t know if she’s a weird bird and wants to come out (she paces the bottom of her cage when she is angry and wants back out, but now she is just sitting) please help, the closest avian vet is 4+ hours away
Usually when a bird is fluffed up and at the bottom of the cage it is not a good sign. You say she is puffed up during the day, that is not normal. They will puff up when sleepy but if she is like that during the day every day, something is wrong. What is the temperature where she is kept? Is she still eating? Perhaps you could get a closer vet to consult with the avian vet that is far away from you.
Your budgie should be safely in her cage when you are preparing dinner.
Allowing a budgie in the kitchen during the time you are cooking is very risky.
There are way too many dangers and the chances of a budgie becoming injured are high.
Please read all of the stickies and budgie articles throughout the forum to ensure you are following best practices for the optimum health and well-being of Annie.
