Default Budgie Wing

Hi, i got fluffy in Oct 2018 which i believe he was about 2 month old & his wing was clipped. However after so long, his wing doesnt seemed to grow back n lately i notice only one of the wing in the middle had outgrown the other. Any idea if his wing was clipped too deep, the wing will never grow back again?

The clipped feathers need to be molted out and then the new ones will grow in. It can take months for this to occur. I have a bird that was hatched last June and was clipped by the breeder and still has one flight feather that needs to molt out, the other clipped ones have over the months been replaced.

Cody is right. Depending on where it is in the molting cycle, it can take months. Even if the feather was cut too short, it will eventually fall out and be replaced with a new one. Think of it like your hair.

The above answers are correct, it can take many months for all flight feathers to grow back The reason for this is that budgies (and many other birds) moult feathers in stages, for example they may grow back one flight feather, some body feathers, and two tail feathers in one moulting cycle. The reason for this is that if they moult and regrow all their feathers at once, they will be susceptible to predation as they will not be able to fly away.

In time, your little one will have all his flights back
