Pacing Back and Forth - Why??

Chick has been pacing back and forth for the past few weeks for seemingly no reason! She used to do this when I had to cage them during the day whilst at work as they were fighting nonstop, so I attributed it to her being stressed at not being able to free fly.

Well, the past few weeks she's started doing it again and I have no idea why. Her cage is open, she's free to do whatever she wants, Wasabi isn't pestering her or playing with her toys. Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening? I hate to think she might be stressed.

She does it every day, sometimes for extended periods. The rest of the time, she'll either be sleeping, playing with toys, or flitting about the room and playing on top of the blinds.

Hmmm... does she always do her pacing on that one particular perch? If so I wonder what would happen if you moved that perch to a different area of the cage? Is she in breeding condition or molting? I know LoVey has some personality quirks during those times. When was her last vet visit? Any changes at all in the household such as a different visitor, new pet on the other side of bird room door, did you put up your Christmas tree, discord among family members, change in ambient room temperature, did you get a new article of clothing, anything at all you can think of. Has Wasabi been feeling ill? Have you been feeling healthy and relatively stress free? Sometimes it's a little thing that we wouldn't think of that can throw them. I think I'd probably start with a vet visit, for both her and Wasabi just to rule out any health issues. I'll be interested to hear the opinion of the others.
  • She paces in multiple spots, in both cages, not just this perch
  • We're due for a cage reorganization, I keep meaning to remove, clean and rearrange all their perches, but I have a feeling it won't stop the pacing
  • She's been in breeding condition for months lol, I treat her too good and I haven't been able to knock her out of it
  • There are no vets in this country, trust me, I've searched high and low and spent I think upwards of $1000 on various online vet consultations, medications, in-country vet visits (not avian vets), all to no avail
  • Nothing new in the house, everything is the same as it has always been. I live alone and no special Christmas decorations. There's absolutely nothing from an outside perspective that would have caused this
  • Wasabi is doing great, as always. She's her nippy, flitty, energetic self
  • She only does it when I'm not home. If I'm home, she's fine. She's rummaging about on my chest as I write this and she didn't pace at all today, though I've had their door open since the morning as it's the weekend here

Is there anything going on outside the window that she's watching, like other birds? Sweety acts like this when his bird fwends are on the deck.
Unfortunately not. Same view as always. Just an empty lot. I live in an apartment building so we're quite high up, not many birds. When they do see birds, they'll hunker down and zoom in on it briefly before resuming their regularly scheduled birdie activities. I've never seen them pace due to a bird.

From my uneducated guess, the only thing the pacing seems attributable to is perhaps stress? But I don't know why she'd be stressed when she's free to fly the entire room, she has toys, great views, natural sunlight, music, and a birdie friend.
